Winter storms can bring extreme cold, snow, ice, frozen pipes, and power outages. Preparing ahead of time can help keep you and your household safe and comfortable.
Frozen Pipes Are a Problem
When Temperatures Stay Below Freezing
- If pipes run through cabinets or vanities, open the doors to let warmer room temperatures flow in.
If your Pipes Do Freeze
- Contact the emergency maintenance line immediately at 828-758-5536 ext. 602.
Winter Storm Prep: Additional Tips
Food and Water - have at least three days' worth of non-perishable food and one gallon of water per person per day.
Backup Heat Source - if using a space heater, keep them at least 3 feet away from flammable materials. Always plug heaters directly into wall outlets (not extension cords).
Flashlights & Batteries - Power outages are common, so stock up on reliable light sources.
Medications & First Aid - Ensure you have necessary prescriptions and emergency medical supplies.
Extra Blankets & Warm Clothing -Staying warm without power can be challenging - layer up!
